Before we ship the PDC cutter ,we will do VTL test and impact test.
VTL test method as below:
First put the PDC cutter to the VTL lathe and placing a rock sample (usually granite) next to the PDC cutter. The rock sample is then rotated around the axis of the lathe at a certain speed. The PDC cutter is cut into the rock sample at a certain depth of cut. When tested with granite, the depth of cut is generally less than 1 mm.
The impact test method as below:
The impact test method is to tilt the PDC cutter by 15-25 degrees, and then drop an object from a certain height to vertically impact the diamond layer on the PDC cutter. The weight and height of the falling object indicate the level of impact energy experienced by the test cutter, which can be gradually increased to 100 joules. Each cutter can be impacted 3-7 times until the teeth can no longer be tested.
